Senior & Junior Volunteers
Volunteering at Navarro Regional Hospital
Who are the first faces that you see when you enter the front doors of Navarro Regional Hospital? Whether it is a lady in pink or a man in a red vest, our volunteers are ready to assist customers with their every need. From escorting customers to their destination, getting a wheelchair for those in need or just a friendly “How may I help you”, the volunteers at Navarro Regional Hospital are ready to serve.
What is a volunteer?
A volunteer is a very special person who gives of his or herself free of charge to help others. Navarro Regional Hospital is very fortunate to have 43 active volunteers (38 women and 5 men) who have donated over 12,000 hours in 2006.
The volunteer helps take a small and sometimes large workload off of an employee or department. When the volunteers run an errand for a department and the employee is able to spend more time with his or her patient or continue their work, then the volunteer has done what they are here to do…help others.
Volunteering is worthwhile. It gives you the opportunity to do something for others and something that you believe in. By volunteering, not only are you helping others, you are helping yourself.

Junior Volunteers
Teenagers (male and female) between 14-18 years of age participate in our Junior Volunteer Program each summer. This past summer the JRVs participated in the Code Black Disaster drill. They played a vital role as the victims of the disaster. This gave them such a great in-site into the role of the staff at NRH.
Several of our Junior Volunteers have pursued medical careers because of the experience and knowledge they gained through volunteering at NRH. To know we have made a difference in a young person’s life makes it all worthwhile.
Scholarships
Winona Stewart was our first volunteer to reach 20,000 hours of volunteering. Therefore, we thought it appropriate to name the scholarship in honor of her…the Winona Stewart Scholarship Fund.
Scholarships applications are available at the Front Information Desk.
Proceeds from the Gift Shop sales and multiple fundraisers through out the year go toward the Scholarship Program. Each year the volunteers award scholarships to students at Navarro College going into a medical field.
I could go on and on about the volunteers at Navarro Regional Hospital, but there is only one word to describe them…PRICELESS!
