2023 Community Benefit Report
3/26/2024
Last year, our Navarro Regional Hospital team played a vital role at more than 159,000 encounters where we helped people get well and live healthier. Around the clock, every day of the year, regardless of holidays, weather or other disruptions – we are here for our community. The skills, talents and energy of our employees and physicians are the force powering all that we do and I am grateful for their steady focus on delivering safe, quality care and a compassionate experience for patients.
We care deeply about all the patients we serve. Life-saving medically necessary care is provided for all patients in our emergency room, regardless of their ability to pay. Members of our community who cannot fully afford their medical care are provided deep discounts or even charity care and we have resources to help them secure medications and medical support devices. Last year, we provided more than $44 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable.
The needs in our community are many and we are proud to support the work of Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County, Navarro County Youth Expo and the United Way of Navarro County as they address social determinants of health. The annual employee-led Jars of Love peanut butter drive helps to stock the shelves at Compassion Corsicana’s Food Pantry.
Navarro Regional continues to grow and evolve and we are applying our resources toward the services that are important to our patients. Physician recruitment in 2023 included orthopedist Christopher Blair, D.O., thereby strengthening orthopedic care in the community; Justin Kaufmann, D.O., general surgeon, treats conditions such as intestinal blockages, hernia repair, and gallbladder diseases. Otolaryngologist Andy Chung, M.D. addresses issues with hearing, speech, eating, nasal obstruction, snoring, and sleeping and offers an implantable sleep apnea solution as a CPAP alternative. We enhanced access to care by opening a primary care clinic in Streetman, serving patients in southern Navarro County and the Richland Chambers Lake area. In November 2023, PHI Air Medical relocated its air ambulance base to the Navarro Regional Hospital campus, improving response times for critical transfers, such as trauma and stroke. Capital improvements totaling almost $1 million were made to renovate surgical suites and other building updates, to enhance the patient experience.
Our impact extends beyond our campus, including the more than $5.7 million in taxes we pay that support critical infrastructure such as first responders, schools and roads. And the payroll of more than $37 million ripples through the local economy as employees buy goods and services.
Navarro Regional Hospital is essential to our community and we are able to perform our vital role through the commitment and compassion of every member of our team. We are honored to serve and extremely proud of our hospital’s $94.6 million community impact in 2023.
John Manolakis is the chief executive officer of Navarro Regional Hospital.
