Don’t Let Your Health Take a Vacation
6/2/2026
Summertime brings lots of opportunities for fun outdoor activities, family gatherings and all the wonderful events our community has to offer. Whether it’s attending a Corsicana Main Street event downtown, the July 4th Annual Lawnmower Parade in Streetman, or the Annual Fireworks Display at the I.O.O.F. park, we are fortunate to live in a community that provides activities and engagement for all ages.
When there’s a break in our normal routines, however, people tend to put their healthcare needs on hold. For those of us living in a rural community, our population is at a 40% higher risk of heart disease compared to those living in larger urban areas. We must keep health and wellness top of mind regardless of the season.
Chest pain is something that should never be ignored. It’s often shrugged off as indigestion, dehydration, muscle strain, or stress, but only a medical evaluation can determine the cause. Experiencing symptoms like chest pressure, tightness, or pain in the chest, back, neck, jaw, or stomach may be a signal for a medical emergency. Calling 911 and seeking emergency care immediately can save heart muscle, improve outcomes, and potentially save a life.
Equally important, if you are experiencing ongoing, recurring symptoms like chest discomfort, shortness of breath during activity, unexplained tiredness, or have a family history of heart disease, do not put off further evaluation until the end of summer. Diagnostic testing such as electrocardiograms, stress tests, echocardiograms, and other screenings may help identify issues early, and prevent a medical emergency. Making and keeping diagnostic testing appointments is one of the most important steps individuals can take to protect their heart health.
Fortunately for Navarro County and surrounding communities, you do not have to travel far for care. Our team at Navarro Regional Hospital is here to help. If you are experiencing chest pain or other concerning symptoms, trust us to provide emergency care. If you are putting off recommended testing, now is the time to schedule your appointments. Don’t delay care - we want to continue to celebrate together and enjoy all the fun Corsicana and our surrounding communities have to offer. Don’t let your health take a vacation; early action can make all the
difference.
